Abstract

1,025,997. Vehicle suspension. WEBB METAL PRODUCTS CO. Jan. 19, 1963, No. 2453/63. Heading B7D. A suspension for tandem axles 23 and 24 comprises leaf spring assemblies 32 and 37 associated at their extreme ends with brackets 33 and 38 which have bearing portions 34 and 39 and rubber bushed bolts 35. At their inner ends the springs bear against bearing portions of a balance member 40, pivoted at 42 to a bracket 41. Torque arms 47F and 47R are pivoted to the axles 23 and 24, respectively, by pivots 49, 51 and 53, 52. The pivots 42, 49, 51, 52 and 53 are all rubber bushed. Downward forces upon braking, due to the vehicles inertia, at the fronts of the springs are counteracted by the forces in the torque rods acting on the balance arm due to braking.
