Abstract

1,025,850. Statistical apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 10, 1964 [April 13, 1963], No. 14880/64. Heading G4M. The invention resides in a device for changing from fast, continuous feeding of a record card to intermittent feeding. The card (not shown) enters from the left, and its leading edge cams down a lever 5 so that the left-hand end of a rocker bar 1 is lowered and presses the card on to a continuously rotating roller 4 which then advances the card. When the card reaches the right-hand end of the device, its leading edge rides up lever 20 and is lifted clear of a sprocket wheel 19. The leading edge of the card then engages a stop 28 which is forced back against abutment 27 and which actuates a switch 17 to energize solenoid 23. This solenoid lowers the right-hand end of rocker bar 1 to press the card down and engage one of its feed holes on a tooth of sprocket wheel 19. At the same time, the lever 20 is pressed down and closes a holding contact 21 for solenoid 23 before switch 17 is opened by the return of stop 28. A further switch 25 actuated by solenoid 23 is used to start a step-by-step drive mechanism for sprocket wheel 19. When the end of the card passes lever 20, the latter returns, opens switch 21 to de-energize solenoid 23 and rocker bar 1 returns to its initial position. If another card is inserted before the first has been fed out of the device, the new card is kept out of engagement with roller 4 by lever 5.
