Abstract

1,025,684. Electric lighting fittings. PRESTON INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH Ltd. June 15, 1964 [March 13, 1963], No. 47026/62. Heading F4R. An electric light fitting comprises a two-part hollow body of translucent plastics material enclosing an incandescent filament lamp, a circular fluorescent discharge tube mounted on the exterior of tha body on an annular member secured to the body and surrounding the filament lamp, control gear for the tube, means for ventilating the interior of the body and means for converting the fitting directly to a lampholder. The fitting consists of two frustoconical parts 1, 2, the upper one having a flat recessed area 3 with ventilating openings 7 and an orifice 4 through which a lamp plug 5 passes. The plug carries a lamp 27 on the underside. The lower one 2 has a similar flat area with ventilating ribs. The parts 1, 2 are united by a band 12 having turned-over edges formed with slots which engage lugs on the parts 1, 2. The band 12 also carries clips for supporting a circular fluorescent discharge tube 20 on its outer surface and a starter switch 26 on the inner face, the switch being connected to the lamp plug 5 so that the lamp 27 acts as a ballast resistance.
