Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1025574/C2/1> wherein R is hydrogen or a C1- 4 alkanoyl group, and their preparation by reduction of a compound of formula <FORM:1025574/C2/2> with lithium in liquid ammonia to form a compound of formula <FORM:1025574/C2/3> reducing this with lithium aluminium hydride to form a compound of formula <FORM:1025574/C2/4> and oxidizing this with chromium trioxide and sulphuric acid, followed if desired by acylation. The compounds of the invention have anabolic activity.
