Abstract

1,025,550. Lighting apparatus. ERNST LEITZ G.m.b.H. May 20, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No. 20703/64. Heading F3C. Aiming mechanism for gun barrels comprises a range-finder for determination of the angle of elevation and a sighting telescope mounted on the gun support and which has at least one movable optical element in driving connection with the gun barrel. The range-finder is coupled to a device which serves to insert into the aiming mechanism an angular elevation correction factor in respect of the ballistus of the projectile. In one embodiment a pivoted mirror 3 of the sighting telescope is in driving connection through shaft 2, differential gear 21, shaft 24 and electromechanical conversion gear 25 with the gun barrel 23. The mirror 3 is rotatable to bring the target image into location upon an index plate 15 by driving mechanism through pinion 17. The range finder is formed as part of the telescope by optical elements 7, 8 which are mutually displaceable by member 9 to vary the magnification and bring the target image into coincidence with the index upon the index plate 15. The adjustment by the member 9 is transmitted by means of a cable 34 to a slide 29 carrying an inclined control member 28 on which is displaceable a roller 27 on an arm 26 fixed to sun wheel 18. Movement of the slide 29 causes rotation of the sun wheel 18 which alters the elevation of the barrel through planet wheels 20 and sun wheel 19. The inclination of the control member 28 is altered by cams 30, 31 according to the projectile used. In another embodiment adjustment of member 9 moves a slide 29 which causes the index plate 15 to move vertically, the mirror 3 then being rotated to bring the target image into coincidence with the index.
