Abstract

A conveyer mechanism wherein each leading block-shaped article 11 conveyed between guides 13, is removed in succession from an endless band feed conveyer 12, in a direction transverse to that of feeding, by the pushers 17 of an endless pusher conveyer 16 which delivers the successive articles on to a platform 18 for further transfer by another endless pusher conveyer 20, to a wrapping machine comprises the pushers 17 pivotally mounted for movement into and out of operative position under the influence of a feeler 34 adapted to be actuated by the leading article 11 on the feed conveyer 12, as it reaches a pre-determined position, such actuation of the feeler preventing pivotal movement of the corresponding pusher 17 out of operative position. The pushers 17 are pivoted to an endless chain and hence rollers 23 which engage a stationary track 21 formed in a plate 22. In the article transfer area 14, a movable section 25 of track is incorporated which is either in line with the track 21 and a pusher 17 passing through this section would engage the leading article 11 or pivoted to deflect the roller 23 upwardly into a second stationary track 67 whereupon the pusher 17 passes over the articles on the feed conveyer. The movable track 25 is pivoted at 26 and is raised by means of arms and links 27, 28, 29, the latter incorporating a follower 31 engaging a cam 32 secured to a shaft 33 driven in timed relationship with the pusher conveyer 16. Also secured to the shaft 33 is a cam 62, the follower 61 of which is mounted on lever 58, 59 which through arms and links 57, 56, 46, 44 pivots an arm 42 about a joint 43 such that the end of the arm 42 moves up and down through a slot in an abutment member 37. The latter is actuated by the feeler 34 which is pivotally mounted above the conveyer 12, when the leading article 11 engages the feeler, and displaces the slot such that the arm 42 is held in the up position. This locks the linkage 44, 46, 56, 57, 58, 59 and a sprag 63 secured to an arm 53 engages the end 64 of the arm 29 whereupon the movable track 25 is locked in line with the stationary track 21 and the pusher transfers the leading article 11. The sprag arm 53 is freely mounted at 47 and is in spring-loaded engagement with an arm 49 rigidly connected to the arms 46, 56. The abutment member 37 is reset after every cycle by a cam-operated pusher 68 (see Fig. 1, not shown).
