Abstract
1,024,707. Pencil lead and crayon composition. HASSENFELD BROS. Inc. March 11, 1964 [March 11, 1963], No. 10397/64. Heading B6P. A composition for a writing element for pencils comprises (1) marking material, which may be an insoluble pigment 5-14% or graphite 25-80%, optionally with 1% stabilizer, e.g. alkaline earth metal soap, resinate, oxide, carbonate or aromatic amines, (2) a heavy metal or alkaline earth salt of a fatty acid 5-30%, e.g. calcium stearate, magnesium stearate or a ricinoleate, (3) thermoplastic resin of colloidal particle size, i.e. from 0À01 to 3 microns, in water dispersion, 5-45%, e.g. a polyvinyl chloride or acetate latex, polyethylene emulsion, ethyl cellulose, polypropylene or cuomorone-indene resin, and in the case of coloured lead (4) a filler or extender, 45-54%, e.g. talc, clay or calcium carbonate.
