Abstract
Foamed materials including sponge rubber, moss rubber cords and other porous packing cords are prepared by blowing natural rubber; synthetic rubbers based on silicones, butadiene, chlorobutadiene or isoprene polymers, diolefin copolymers with styrene and acryloni trile, ethylene/vinylacetate polymers and polyvinyl chloride/nitrilo rubber blends; polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene with nitrosourethanes of the formula <FORM:1024647/C3/1> wherein R, R1, R2, R3, R5 and R6 represent alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals having up to 6 carbon atoms, R, R1, R5 and R6 may also represent hydrogen and R and R1 may also represent hydroxyalkyl radicals or radicals of the formula <FORM:1024647/C3/2> (in which R4 represents an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical having up to 6 carbon atoms), a and b are 1,2 or 3, and X represents a direct linkage or a heteroatom (e.g. O, S or N), alone or in conjunction with plasticizers and sulphonic acid esters.ALSO:The invention comprises nitrosourethanes of the formula <FORM:1024647/C2/1> wherein R, R1, R2, R3, R5 and R6 represent alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals having up to 6 carbon atoms, R, R1, R5 and R6 may also represent hydrogen and R and R1 may also represent hydroxyalkyl radicals or radicals of the formula <FORM:1024647/C2/2> (in which R4 represents an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical having up to 6 carbon atoms), a and b are 1, 2 or 3, and X represents a direct linkage or a hetero atom, for instance O, S or N (which may either bear a hydrogen atom or an alkyl substituent). The above nitrosourethanes are prepared by reacting appropriate glycols or polyalcohols with appropriate isocyanates, or by reacting appropriate di- or polychlorocarbonic acid esters with appropriate primary amines to form urethane intermediates, which are then nitrosated with nitrous acid.ALSO:Foamed coated materials are prepared by brushing paper, or fabrics having a base coating, with a polyvinylchloride paste containing a nitrosourethane blowing agent of the formula:- <FORM:1024647/B1-B2/1> together with specified fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers and pigments, and subsequently heating to a temperature of between 125-175 DEG C.
