Abstract

102,365. Keith, J., and Keith, G. June 22, 1916. Lids and covers.-In a crucible furnace, the lid or cover is mounted so that it can be first tilted clear of the furnace tnp by a lever and cam, and then swung horizontally aside. The cover 17 is formed with a flange 18 dipping into a sand lute 16, and is loosely connected by a bolt 19 with a casting 20 pivoted at 21 to a casting 22 rotatable about the vertical spindle 22x. The cam 23 is pivoted in the casting 20 and bears against the part 22. The lever 24 serves both for tilting the cover and swinging it horizontally. When the cover is in its raised position, the bolt 19 is in tension, and the weight is taken by horizontal lugs on the casting 20. By loosening the bolt, the cover can be reversed for repairs.
