Abstract
A process for preparing a detergent composition containing a water-soluble alkali metal tripolyphosphate, a water-soluble sodium silicate and chlorinated trisodium phosphate comprises:- (a) mixing a hydrated water-soluble alkali metal tripolyphosphate with chlorinated trisodium phosphate (b) adding water and the total amount of a sodium silicate having Na2O:SiO2 ratios ranging from 1:1.65 to 1:3.75 to form agglomerated particles at a maximum temperature of 50 DEG C., and (c) aging the particles with hot air under agitation to remove from 5-13% of free moisture content to give a moisture level of 22-35% in the final product therefrom. The composition preferably contains 40-65% sodium (or potassium) tripolyphosphate, 8-20% sodium silicate, 6-25% chlorinated trisodium phosphate, and up to 10% of a non-ionic detergent (added in step (b)) which may be a condensate of ethylene oxide with a hydrophobic base formed by condensing propylene oxide with propylene glycol, and may include a soil-suspending agent, e.g. sodium carboxymethylcellulose.
