Abstract

1,022,623. Masted lift trucks. CONVEYANCER FORK TRUCKS Ltd. June 1, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10145/63. Heading B8H. [Also in Division B7] An operator's control cockpit of a masted lift truck is rotatable about a vertical axis on a horizontal arm which is pivoted about a vertical axis on the truck frame or on a fixed mast section whereby the cockpit can be swung from one side of the truck to the other. As shown in Fig. 1, the cockpit 20 is rotatably suspended from an arm 19 pivoted on a cranked arm 15 which is pivotably mounted between plates 13, 14 on the fixed mast section 12. An arm 23, 24 rotatably secured to the base 21 of the cockpit is provided with rollers 25 running on a guide track 26 on the truck frame. A telescopic strut 33, 34 is pivoted at 35 on plate 14 and the section 34 is constrained at 36 to follow a cam track in plate and is pivoted at 38 to a lever 39 which is connected through a clutch 41 to a spindle 40 suspending the cockpit from the arm 19. When the clutch 41 is disengaged, by means of a control cable 42 connected to a foot pedal 28 and to a steering wheel 29, the cockpit can be rotated in its mounting on the arm 19 by operation of an electric motor 30, mounted on the arm 23 and driving a pinion 32 meshing with a gear-wheel 31 secured to the cockpit. The arm 15 is rotated to swing the cockpit to one side of the truck by rotating an arm 17A, which is pivoted to a bracket 16 on the mast section 12 and which is connected to the arm 15 by a post 18, by means of a rack and pinion mechanism 52, 53. With the clutch 41 engaged, the telescopic strut 33, 34 and cam track 37 cause the cockpit to remain facing in the same direction, during rotation of the arm 15. The steering wheel 29 is connected through a clutch and bevel gearing 45, shaft 46 universally jointed at 47 to a shaft 48, bevel gearing 49, and a telescopic shaft 50 to the hydraulic motor 44 of a hydraulic servo-mechanism 43 controlling the steering of rear wheels 7. The clutch at 45 is disengaged by pulling the steering wheel from position A to position B, which movement also releases clutch 41, disengages the truck transmission and applies the brakes. The forks 11 are connected to the lifting carriage 10 by a reach mechanism such as that described in U.S.A. Specification 2,752,058. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the cockpit 68 is rotatably mounted on a spindle 68A at one end of an arm 69 which is rotatably mounted at its other end on the truck frame. The arm 69 is rotated by a hydraulically actuated rack and pinion mechanism. A chain sprocket is mounted to rotate with the arm 69 and is coupled by a chain to a similar sprocket connected to the spindle 68A by a clutch whereby, when the clutch is engaged, rotation of the arm 69 causes converse rotation of the cockpit 68. An electric motor may be provided to rotate the cockpit with respect to the arm 69 when the clutch is disengaged.
