Abstract

1,022,416. Valves; fluid-pressure brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Jan. 17, 1963 [Feb. 17, 1962], No. 6235/62. Headings F2F and F2V. A fluid control valve for a vehicle braking system has a casing made up of parts 10, 11, 12 and 13, the part 12 incorporating a radial inlet port 15 and two or more outlet ports 16, only one of which is shown. A plug 17 is rotatable in a casing bore and is provided with a spherical portion 19 working in a complementary opening in a ring 21 located in the casing part 12. where the valve has two outlets the portion 19 incorporates radial passages 25, 26 and a diametral passage 24, the passage 26 leading to an axial relief port 28 via an inclined passage 27. In one plug position fluid is delivered to both outlet ports by passages 24, 25, the passage 26 being closed. Upon moving the plug through 90 degrees the outlet port 16 is connected to the relief port 28 whilst the other outlet port is open to the inlet port. A further 90 degrees of plug movement interchanges the connections of the outlet ports. The next 90 degrees of plug rotation results in the two outlet ports being interconnected by the passages 24, 25 whilst the inlet port 15 is open to the relief port 28. The valve can be used to control the supply of fluid from a master cylinder to one or both slave cylinders and may be operated manually or by means responsive to vehicle loading, and direct movement of the plug between one or other of these positions may be prevented by a stop (not shown) and/or a gate or cam delay device (not shown) may be used to provide a time delay in moving directly between these positions. The valve closure member may be a linearly movable piston or plate (not shown).
