Abstract

A process for the mass coloration of a synthetic linear polyamide comprises incorporating in the polyamide at some stage prior to the final spinning or fabrication into solid objects, an iron, cobalt, nickel or copper complex of a monoazo dyestuff having metallizable groups in positions adjacent to the azo linkage. Specified metallizable groups are hydroxy, alkoxy, carboxy, carbalkoxy and amino groups. Specified dyestuffs whose metal complexes may be used are those of o : o1-dihydroxy-monoazo dyes, o-hydroxy-o1-carboxy monoazo dyes and o-carboxy-o1-amino monoazo dyes, many such dyes being exemplified. Examples are given.
