Abstract

In an automatic cap feeder, wound bobbins loaded in orderly, spaced manner on the lattice bars of a horizontal conveyer pass to a vertically suspended, rubber, separator sheet or curtain which, in cooperation with a mechanical flapper, ensures an orderly arrangement of the bobbins as they roll on to a tiltable shoot plate (the accumulation, and then the absence, of a set weight of a number of bobbins on which arrests the conveyer and then advances it through a distance corresponding to such number of bobbins) whence they transfer to a bobbin elevating conveyer formed with slats each carrying a single bobbin and travelling in unison by intermittent movements at each of which one bobbin is deposited in a supply magazine for feeding an automatic winder which travels around a circular track. A spare-bobbin box supplies additional bobbins through a swing-plate exit door to ensure that any empty position on the slats becomes occupied. Any unwound yarn end projecting from a bobbin on the slats (and therefore in danger of overlapping adjacent bobbins and thus spoiling the orderly progress of the bobbins and subsequent withdrawal of the yarn end) is cut by a reciprocating knife blade which makes one movement across each slat, Fig. 38 (not shown). The last-wound part of the yarn (usually pulled off manually) is pneumatically and automatically unwound at the elevating conveyer by means of a suction nozzle encompassing the tail end portion of the bobbin (which is then temporarily held stationary) and cut by scissors, Fig. 12 (not shown). Bobbins deposited in the magazine are conveyed intermittently by magazine cans to yarn withdrawing apparatus comprising a reciprocating searcher mechanism, a rotary, spiral cutter mechanism and a suction nozzle (assisted in its thread withdrawal action by a beater) operating sequentially, Fig. 19 (not shown).
