Abstract

A safety razor blade has on its cutting edge an adherent coating of a cured solid hydrocarbon polymer containing a chain of carbon atoms including a plurality of -CH2-CH2-groups. Preferably, the polymer has a molecular weight at least of the order of 5000. The polymer may be a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, or a partially hydrogenated polymer of butadiene, or a polymer of ethylene, or mixtures or such polymers, or any of these polymers mixed with polyisobutylene, poly(butene-1), poly(4-methylpentene-1), butyl rubber, polypropylene, Hevea rubber, polybutadiene or poly(vinylisobutylether). The polymer is applied to the blade from a solution of the polymer in a volatile liquid such as toluene, xylene, perchloroethylene which is deposited on the blade cutting edge, and the volatile liquid is then evaporated. The curing is effected by heating for one-half to thirty minutes at 300-320 DEG F.
