Abstract
1,021,225. Projectile fuzes. J. ROCHAT. Nov. 8, 1962 [Nov. 30, 1961], No. 42206/62. Heading F3A. An electric fuze, particularly intended for selfpropelled missiles, has an electric generator 2, which is normally locked by a safety device comprising a finger 10 on a lever 11, an inertia mass 24 on an arm 23, a retarding device and a brake which prevents unlocking for accelerations above a predetermined value. On launching the projectile, mass 24 sets back causing rotation of arm 23 against a spring 32, Fig. 2 (not shown), and thereby rotation of an axle 21, Fig. 1, which sets in motion a gear train 25-28 and a disc 29 which rotates in an air gap between a permanent magnet 31 and a bent sheet 30. The gear train and eddy current effects on disc 29 as well as the spring 32 constitute the retarding device and only after sufficiently long periods of acceleration can arm 23 move to a position to allow movement of a notched lever 15, Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown), and hence release of lever 11. A disc 6, Fig. 1, attached to the rotor of generator 2 is urged to rotate by a spring 8, and on release of lever 11, disc 6 is allowed to rotate and thereby remove finger 10 from its path. The brake comprises a spring 34 which when subjected to large accelerations, e.g. five times the normal launching acceleration, sets back against disc 29. The position of mass 24 may be varied on arm 23.
