Abstract

1,021,051. Washing dishes. HOOVER Ltd. March 30, 1962 [Jan. 2, 1961], No. 148/61. Heading A4F. A method of washing dishes or similar articles consists in subjecting the dishes to a pre-washing operation at a low temperature with a liquid containing soluble scouring particles and thereafter carrying out a main washing operation at a higher temperature, the conditions being such that during the pre-washing operation the particles are either not dissolved at all or at most only partly dissolved, but are completely or substantially dissolved during the course of the main washing operation. The pre-washing operation is carried out at a temperature in the range 10‹C-25‹C and the main operation in the range 60‹C-70‹C. The scouring particles may be formed from a non-toxic salt with a diameter of approximately #" or from a water-soluble resin, or a soap or detergent compounded with a material which dissolves at a higher temperature, or encapsulated in gelatine and form balls of diameter “" to #". The scouring material may be such that the pH of the cold plain water will not allow them to dissolve, but when a detergent is added the pH is adjusted so that they can dissolve. The scouring particles are thrown on to the dishes by some means such as high pressure jets or a paddle wheel.
