Abstract
1,020,886. Phase displacements. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 7, 1964 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 45239/62. Heading H2F. [Also in Division H3] Voltage variable capacity diodes C 2 , C 1 (Fig. 2) or C 2 /2, 2C 1 (Fig. 3) are used for providing both the variable inductance and capacitance of the series and shunt arms of a lattice network or equivalent bridged-T network, having a variable phase shift output, yet constant real image impedance Z 0 . The Fig. 3 transformation would require a fixed negative shunt capacitance but this is replaced by inductance ¢L# without much loss of bandwidth and may be constituted simply by the inductance of the connecting leads between 2C, and the two C# capacitors. The bias for the diodes may be applied through resistors, and the input and output of the network shunted by compensating resistors. One or two diodes may be used for each of ¢C 2 or 2C 1 (Fig. 3) and the diodes connected by capacitors to compensate their lead inductance. The diodes may be of Zener type.
