Abstract

A composition for coating air filters (for example in Diesel engines) comprises a triorganic phosphate of the formula <FORM:1020780/C4-C5/1> wherein n is 0 or 1, the alkyl radical contains from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and the aryl radicals are derived from tar acid, from 0.5% to 5% by weight of substantially pure pyrogenic silica having a particle size not greater than 0.025 microns, and 0.1 to 2.5% by weight of at least one surface-active agent which is a non-ionic surfactant, a cationic surfactant, a polyglycol, or water. The preferred phosphate is tricresyl phosphate. The composition may be thickened with cellulose acetate-butyrate.ALSO:A composition for coating air filters (for example in Diesel engines) comprises a triorganic phosphate of the formula <FORM:1020780/B1-B2/1> wherein n is 0 or 1, the alkyl radical contains from 1-8 carbon atoms, and the aryl radicals are derived from tar acid, from 0,5-5% by weight of substantially pure pyrogenic silica having a particle size not greater than 0,025 microns, and 0,1-2,5% by weight of at least one surface active agent which is a non-ionic surfactant, a cationic surfactant, a polyglycol, or water. The preferred phosphate is tri-cresyl phosphate. The composition may be thickened with cellulose acetate-butyrate.
