Abstract
1,020,686. Endless conveyers. L. W. ATKINSON. Nov. 23, 1964 [Sept. 21, 1963], No. 37210/63. Heading B8A. Means for cleaning a snub drum 10 of an endless belt 14 comprises a scraper blade 132, shorter than the snub drum 10, carried by a sleeve 13 slidingly mounted on a shaft 12 and arranged for manual operation by a handle on a rod 134. When cleaning is required the rod 134 is twisted anti-clockwise, Fig. 2 (not shown), to bring the blade 132 into contact with the snub drum 10, and is reciprocated to remove any foul matter on the drum 10 which matter then drops into a collection trough 15. The blade 132 is arranged to impinge tangentially on the snub drum 10 and may be provided with a counterweight 135. The blade 132 may be reciprocated by a peg 136, Fig. 6 (not shown), engaging two coarse pitch reverse spiral grooves 122, Fig. 3 (not shown), in the shaft 12 which may be driven by a chain 18, Fig. 4 (not shown), from a head drum 11 or by a separate electric motor 20, Fig. 5 (not shown). A plough 137 may be arranged to move with the blade 132 and so clear the trough 15.
