Abstract

1,020,603. Heater cables. SINGER CO. May 4, 1964 [May 13, 1963], No. 18445/64. Heading H5H. [Also in Division H1] A temperature variable heater cable for, e.g., preventing freezing of pipes, is in the form of a pair of wires joined by an insulating web. Each wire comprises a resistance helix on a fibre-glass core surrounded by insulation, Fig. 1. The conductors are joined together at one end, and brought out to leads at the other as shown in Fig. 2. The cable is made self-compensating by using a high positive temperature coefficient resistance alloy (see Division H1), so that, e.g. a normal dissipation of 7 watts per foot is reduced to 3 watts per foot in high ambient temperatures.
