Abstract

1,020,577. Stuffing-boxes. G. M. PRATLEY OVERSEAS (PM) Ltd. Jan. 1, 1963 [Jan. 13, 1962; Sept. 25, 1962], Nos. 1335/62 and 36314/62. Heading F2B. [Also in Division H2] In a cable gland in which a nut 23 and cone 22 grip the armour 13 of the cable, a sealing assembly is interposed between nut 23 and bush 16 to prevent moisture passing along the cable sheath. The assembly comprises a pair of thin brass dished washers 15 having locating rims 17 and slit conical skirts 18, 19 fitting closely about the cable, the space between the washers 15 containing a resilient and/or deformable plastic material 24, e.g. putty, which spews out along the cable when the gland is tightened.
