Abstract
1,020,456. Springs. E.T.A. A.G. EBAUCHES-FABRIK. Oct. 30, 1962 [Nov. 1, 1961], No. 41082/62. Heading F2S. [Also in Division G3] The rundown time of a clockwork spring barrel is increased, albeit with some slight loss of power and timekeeping ability in a later stage of the rundown, by a particular mainspring. This spring, Figs. 1-10 (not shown), comprises a spirally coiled blade, characterized in that an outer length 6 thereof adapted for connection to the barrel, is of the same thickness throughout, so as to deliver the correct driving force, whilst a second length 7 extending inwardly from the outer length and adapted for connection to the arbor, is of lesser thickness than the outer length 6. This enables the diameter of the arbor to be reduced and the space available for the spring to be increased. The thickness of the outer length may be <SP>1</SP>/ 25 th of the diameter formed by the inner length when fully wound. The inner length 7 may also be of uniform thickness, but in one form it is made of uniformly increasing thickness from its inner end outwardly to its junction with the length 6. The rate of increase of thickness, from known rules concerning the smallest diameter to which the turns can safely be wound, is made as great as possible, to keep the inner length relatively short and improve the power/time characteristic. The spring may be in one piece or the lengths welded or riveted.
