Abstract

1,020,207. Poultry batteries and feeding appliances. H. SCOWCROFT. Dec. 30, 1964 [Dec. 31, 1963], No. 47581/63. Heading A1M. A poultry battery of the kind having a number of cages arranged in two rows back-to-back in one or more tiers is characterised in that food is supplied to the cages by an endless belt extending the length of the battery between the two rows of cages. The food belt g is located above a resilient member f located midway between the two cages and its upper run is formed by guide members into a trough shape. Above belts g are apertured tubes j supplied with water from a float controlled cistern. Beneath the floors of the cages are endless bands h the outer parts of which receive droppings and the centre of which receives eggs from the cages and conveys them to a collecting point, the member f forming a baffle to direct the eggs on to the band. The fronts of the cages are formed by strips of material b to which are attached wires c and the back wall of each cage is provided by strips e spaced from the floors to allow the passage of eggs. Food is delivered to the belt g through tubes extending from a supply hopper at one end of the battery. A cover m of plastics material is provided for the battery.
