The objective consists of four air-separated lens elements in which:- (1) L I is a collective unsymmetrical biconvex element having r 1 as the surface of absolutely stronger curvature (2) L II is a dispersive unsymmetrical biconcave element having r 3 as the surface of absolutely stronger curvature (3) L III is a collective unsymmetrical element having r 5 as the surface of absolutely stronger curvature (4) L IV is a dispersive meniscus element concave to the object and is characterized by:- where n is the refractive index and v AbbÚ number of the glass of the appropriate element L I or L II , #n/r is the refractive power of the appropriate surface and f is the focal length of the objective. Optical data are given for four examples.
