Abstract
1,019,836. Switch cases. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Feb. 7, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1962], No. 5093/63. Heading H2B. An electric switch designed to prevent the possibility of causing an explosion in an ignitable atmosphere is enclosed and sealed in a casing and actuated by a rod passing through a passage in an insert of rigid material, the clearance being " explosion-proof," i.e. small enough to prevent any sparking, which occurs in the device, from igniting an explosive atmosphere outside it. In the form described, a casing, comprising a front wall 21, Fig. 1 (n t shown), and a continuous side wall 2, completely surrounds a switch 1 of known construction, which is sealed around its operating knob 4 by an 0-ring 5 and which is enclosed by a mass of synthetic resin 26. The latter also seals around terminal posts 11 and, if desired, a cover 9 may be fitted over the assembly. The switch is operated by a push-rod 8 which slides, with clearance sufficiently small to be " explosion proof," in a rigid guide 6 set in the wall 21 of the cover member.
