Abstract

[Also in Division H1] A unitary anisotropic permanent magnet substantially ring-shaped body 30 comprises a plurality, e.g. two symmetricallyarranged regions N, S each preferentially oriented both substantially radially throughout the entire angular extent of the region and perpendicularly with respect to the ring axis over the entire distance between the inner and outer surfaces of the body, the oriented regions being mutually separated by non-radially oriented regions A, B and permanently magnetized in the orientation direction 35. The magnet may be assembled in a motor and be of a ceramic; a sintered ferrite, e.g. barium, strontium and lead; intermetallic compounds such as manganese-aluminium and manganese-bismuth; or alnico. The body alternatively may be elliptical or polygonal, of square, rectangular, round or oval cross-section, or have a circular periphery and a square bore.
