Abstract

Compositions resistant to electrostatic charge comprise an organic macromolecular material, e.g. a polymer, and a minor amount, e.g. 0.1-7%, of at least one compound of formula <FORM:1019115/C3/1> where R1 is H or CH3, R2 is a C2- 26 alkyl group, R3 is a linear C1- 5 alkylene which may be substituted by an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl alkanyl or aralkyl groups, R4 is H, a C1- 26 alkyl group or a metal ion and R4 (when an alkyl group), R2 and R3 may be substituted by an hydroxy or alkoxy groups. The polymer may be derived from styrene, butadiene, acrylonitrile, vinyl carbazole, vinyl chloride, ethylene propyelene, butene-(1), pentene-(1), 4-methyl-pentene-(1), hexene-(1), 5,5-dimethyl-hexene-(1), octadecene-(1), 4-phenyl-butene-(1), vinyl cyclohexene-(1), acrylic or methacrylic acid ester, oxymethylene, or may be a polyterephthalate, a polycarbonate, polyacetate, polyamide, polyurethane, a polyester, e.g. a condensation product of ethylene glycol with maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride in styrene, or an epoxy resin hardened by a basic reagent. The carboxylic acid amines may be propionic acid (ethyl or methyl) ester-b -N-methyl-N-(stearyl or dodecyl) amine, butyric acid stearyl ester-g -N-methyl-N-dodecylamine, propionic acid ethyl ester-b -N-ethanolamine or valeric acid ethyl ester - d - N - methyl - N - ethanolamine. The compositions may be formed into shaped articles.
