Abstract

101,900. Schieroni, E., and Ullmann, I. Jan. 25, 1916. Kinematograph apparatus.-Relates to kinematograph apparatus of the kind having multiple rows of pictures on the film, as shown in Fig. 4, which is alternately traversed laterally and longitudinally. The film is carried by a movable frame 1 provided with an opening 3 of the width of one row of pictures and placed opposite a fixed window 4 of the size of one picture only. An arm 5 attached to the frame 1 is linked to one end of a lever 6 pivoted at 7 and also linked to another lever 8 pivoted at 9. The lever 8 carries a stud 10 having a roller working in a cam-groove 11 on a disk 12 mounted on an axle 42 and driven by a worm 20 on a driving-shaft 19, which is provided with a fly-wheel 25, crank 26, and another worm 21 driving a shutter, which consists of two adjustable disks provided with segmental openings 23. 24 by means of which the aperture can be adjusted. The cam-groove comprises two symmetrical halves stepped to correspond with the number of pictures, each-half expanding outwards so as to give the pin 10 and the frame 1 a lateral reciprocating motion to expose the whole row of pictures. The lateral movement of the stud 10 is facilitated by a resifent lever 16 pivoted at 9 and having extensions 41, through which pass setscrews 46 adapted to engage a pin 9a on an extension 47 of the rod 8. The other end of the lever 16 has a pin engaging a circular cam-groove on the other side of the disk 12 to the groove 11, so that the stud 10 is given a spring movement. Instead of being resilient, the lever 16 may he rigid, and spiral springs may be provided to engage the pin 9. In order to secure the correct position of the frame and consequently of the film, the disk 12 is provided with a series of cams 14 adapted to engage a dog 48, pivoted at 13 and carrying a tooth 44 on the end of a spring arm 45, adapted to engage in a series of notches 15 in a rack 16. The film is driven lengthways by sprockets 32 on a shaft 31, which also carries a toothed wheel 30 alternately engaged at the ends of the travel of the frame 1 by fingers 28, 29 on a spindle 27 driven by gearing from the driving-spindle 19. When used for taking pictures, the film is enclosed in a case 33 hung on hinges 34 on the frame 1, and the film passes from the upper part to the lower, where it is wound on an axle 36 driven from a split pulley 37 on the shaft 31. One half of the pulley 37a is fixed on the shaft 31, and the other half 37 is loose and is held in engagement by a spring 49, so as to slip when resistance is encountered and so avoid damaging the film. If plates are used, they are enclosed in a perforated sliding carrier.
