Abstract

A rubber-forming composition comprises, by weight, (1) 100 parts of an organopolysiloxane; (2) from 10 to 200 parts of a filler; and (3) from 0.05 to 1 part of MgO, in which the siloxane has a viscosity of at least 100,000 cp. at 25 DEG C. and the Si-bonded organic radicals are present in a ratio of from 1.98 to 2.05 radicals per Si atom and are selected from monovalent hydrocarbon (saturated and unsaturated), halo-hydrocarbon and cyanoalkyl radicals. The MgO may be in the form of magnesia, calcined magnesia, periclase, ponderous magnesia or magnesia usta. The fillers specified are conventional ones. The compositions may be cured by heating with organic peroxides or by high-energy electron irradiation. Examples are given.
