Enamelling frit for production of yellow and red coatings on ceramic substrates contains in addition to normal frit components, S together with CdO and/or CdS and/or S together with CdSe and/or a CdS-CdSe and/or S together with Se in a metal form or as a selenite, the total quantity of these substances including the colouring material containing these substances not exceeding 25% by weight and the selenium quantity not exceeding 0.6% by weight, both relative to the glaze, the glaze being fired at an elevated temperature of at least 1080 DEG C. Examples of suitable frits are given.
