Abstract

1,017,915. Road barriers. I. BIANCHIMINA. Aug. 7, 1964 [Aug. 10, 1963; Dec. 13, 1963], No. 32149/64. Heading E1G. A road crash barrier comprises a plurality of endless cables 1, 2 having freedom of longitudinal movement and being supported at distances at least twice the length of a vehicle, the supports being elastically protected from impact and bearing anti-dazzle screens 30. The cables are carried on sheaves 5, 6 free to rotate about supporting tubes 7, 8 fixed rigidly to the ground. Posts 33, 34 on each side of the support carry resilient strips, secured to one post and sliding on the other post, to protect the sheaves from collision. The posts 33, 34 may support an anti-dazzle screen of plate or wire mesh. Intermediate anti-dazzle screens 30<SP>1</SP> may be provided on posts 36. In a second embodiment, the sheave supports are protected by a resiliently tyred wheel of greater diameter mounted on the sheave axis.
