Abstract

1,017,261. Independent rear suspension. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 11, 1964 [June 25, 1963], No. 25181/63. Heading B7D. An independent rear suspension comprises swinging halfshafts 7 each journalled in a hub 17 supporting the vehicle through a self-levelling shock absorber/ spring unit 53 (as described in Specification 969,703) and a leaf spring 45 pivotally connected to the hub about an axis extending longitudinally of the vehicle. The spring 45 comprises a single leaf 47a and a stiffener blade 49a, and carries a cradle 37 clamped to the outer members 33 of rubber sleeve assemblies mounted on opposed spindles 27 projecting from the hub 17. In a modified arrangement for non-driven wheels each half-shaft 7 is pivotally connected to the vehicle about a longitudinal axis and the wheels are rotatably mounted on the half-shafts.
