Abstract

1,017,165. Electrophotographic processes for producing printing plates. FAIRCHILD CAMERA & INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. June 9, 1964 [July 17, 1963], No. 23816/64. Headings G2H and G2M. [Also in Division H1] An electrophotographic plate comprising a layer containing ZnO in a silicone resin on a metal base is charged electrostatically, exposed and developed by dipping the plate in a suspension of aluminium octoate in iso-octane, heptane and silicone fluid. The liquid is then evaporated to fix the image and the plate heated to 500‹F to effect polymerization of the image on the film and thereby form a resist pattern. The plate is quenched with water, washed in xylene and heptane to remove non-polymerized material then washed, dried and etched to produce a photoengraving plate. Printed copper electrical circuits may be made by the above technique using a copper laminated base. The additional steps of removing the copper by etching with i.e. Cl 3 or NH 4 per SO 4 and then the polymerized image are necessary. The metal base may be Zn, Mg or Cu.
