In a concrete mixer a stationary casing 40 situated behind a motor-driven rotary drum 1 comprises a chamber 37 for cement and a chamber 39 supplied through a hopper 6 with sand and aggregate, the materials being collected from the chambers by cups 12,, 8 connected with the drum. Cement is tipped from the cups 12 into a hopper and on to a shoot 5, together with sand and aggregate from the cups 8. In a zone I of the drum the materials are dry mixed and then conveyed by helical vanes 3 to a zone II where a jet of water from a pipe 26 is fed under pressure both to form a wet mix and to clean the wall of the chamber. The concrete next passes to a zone III where it is kept in circulation. When the zone III is full of concrete a switch either automatically stops the drum motor, or actuates a signal in response to which the feeding of the cement, sand, aggregate and water can be interrupted manually while the drum continues to rotate.
