Abstract
1,016,432. Laminates. REVERTEX Ltd. July 5, 1962 [July 14, 1961], No. 25667/61. Heading B5N. A laminate comprises a metal panel and a noise-reducing material adhered thereto to damp vibrations thereof and reduce noise passing therethrough wherein the material comprises a layer of flexible foamed noiseabsorbing material the thickness of which is related to the noise absorbency desired, and a layer of vibration damping material, the nominal thickness of which is from ¢ to equal that of the metal panel, which comprises (1) an acrylic resin, butyl rubber, a polyvinyl acetate resin, a vinyl acetate copolymer resin, or a resin selected from the group consisting of cumarone, indene, cumarone-indene, styrene-indene resins, resins derived from homologues of the monomeric resins of the group, mixtures of the resins of the group, and one or more resins of the group in admixture with a bituminous material; and (2) a filler material. The noise-absorbing material may be a foamed polyurethane or a foamed rubber layer. The vibration damping material may contain an organic or mineral filler material, e.g. clay, mica or slate powder, wood flour or cork, or a flaky material such as mica or vermiculite. A layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive, e.g. a rubber-based adhesive containing a resinous tackifier, may be present on the outside of the layer of vibration damping material. The material may be in the form of a pad or a roll, the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, if present, being covered by a paper coated with a release agent. The vibration damping material may be sprayed or otherwise applied directly on to the foamed layer.
