Abstract

An acoustic ear protector comprises a tube closed at one end and curved in a plurality of dimensions to fit in self-supporting manner in the concha of the auricle with the open end of the tube located loosely within the external auditory meatus to form a filter producing attenuation of unwanted sounds over a band of frequencies determined by the dimensions of the tube. The closed end is sealed by a plug 2 slidable in the tube to vary the length of the resonating column of air in the tube. The length of the tube is approximately equal to a quarter of a wavelength of the frequency to be attenuated. The tube is shaped over a mandrel, heated and removed from the mandrel after cooling.
