Abstract

1,015,858. Spray-producers. W. R. GRACE & CO. June 16, 1964 [June 28, 1963], No. 24949/64. Heading B2F. A nozzle 10 suitable for use in a lining machine for applying sealing compositions to closures comprises a tip 13 provided with a discharge orifice and a capillary tube 16 arranged to conduct a liquid from a reservoir 18 to the exterior surface of the tip so that the liquid wets the surface of the emerging jet of sealing composition and reduces or eliminates blockage of the nozzle orifice. The liquid sheath is preferably the base of the sealing composition. The tube 16 fits through a small hole 17 bored in a nut 15 which holds the tip 13 in place. The tip may be provided with a wind shield, Fig. 2 (not shown) or provided with a channel, notches, or a cutaway face, Figs. 3-5 (not shown), to ensure an even distribution of the liquid if the nozzle is rotated or inclined. The material of the tip at the orifice may be ground to a fine edge and the orifice may be inclined to the nozzle axis, Fig. 7 (not shown), to produce shoulder linings.
