Abstract

A dimethylpolysiloxane is cured to a rubber by mixing it with 0.1 to 10% by weight of an aluminium alkyl of the formula <FORM:1015446/C3/1> wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl radical of 1 to 8 C atoms, an aralkyl radical or a cycloalkyl radical, at least one of R1, R2 and R3 being an organic radical. Curing takes place at room temperature, but can be effected at temperatures of up to 100 DEG C. Fillers and customary additives may be added. Aluminium alkyls specified are triethyl aluminium, triisohexyl aluminium, diethyl aluminium chloride, diisobutyl aluminium hydride, ethyl aluminium hydride and triisobutyl and trioctyl aluminiums. If desired the aluminium alkyl may be complexed with a carboxylic acid ester of 2 to 20 C atoms. The alkyl may be added directly, with or without a solvent, to the siloxane. Examples are given.
