Abstract
1,015,381. Lifting devices for handling convection spacer discs. BROWN LENOX & CO. Ltd. April 6, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14354/63. Heading B8H. Apparatus for handling convection spacer discs D used to separate stacked coils of strip metal C during heat treatment comprises four pivoted lifting pawls 30, 31 normally biased by connected weights 12, 32 freely sliding under gravity along a rod 13 into inoperative positions. Two pivoted catch levers 10, 11 are each biased into operative position by a push rod 40 freely sliding through a saddle 38 but pivot inwards as the apparatus is introduced into a stack of space discs D on a coil C to pass lips L on the spacer discs D. In position 1 (as shown) as the apparatus is lifted the catch levers 10, 11 engage under the lip L of the lowermost spacer disc I thereby lifting the weights 12, 32 and allowing the lifting pawls 30, 31 to engage under the lip L<SP>1</SP> of the second spacer disc. Since the weight of a spacer disc D is greater than that of the weights 12, 32 the outer end of catch lever 10 pivots downwards as the apparatus is lifted so that the lowermost space disc I is left on the coil C. A manually operated handle 20 has settings 2 and 3 in addition to the position 1 shown. In position 2 (Fig. 2, not shown) all the spacer discs D are released, while in position 3 (Fig. 3, not shown) all the spacer discs are lifted.
