A cooling unit for bottles or packages comprises front, back and side walls defining a storage space which is subdivided by at least one partition wall of the same height as one of said front, back and side walls, and means for cooling the partition, back and side walls. As shown in Fig. 1 the unit has side walls 17, 18 partition walls 23, a back wall 13 and a front wall (not shown) and refrigerant tubing 24 is secured within each of these walls. The walls 23 are spaced from the bottom wall 11 of the unit to allow air to circulate and the sensing element 31 of a thermostat controlling the supply of refrigerant to the tubing 24 is positioned directly beneath one of the walls 23. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4 two such units A and B are mounted one above the other to form an open-fronted cabinet having a base portion 42 which houses the refrigerating machine. The cabinet is mounted on castors 43 and has a fitted bottle opener 44 and a drawer 41 for receiving bottle tops, the drawer being also used for the collection of defrost water. Each of the units A and B may have its own thermostat or a single length of tubing with a single thermostat may be used for both units. In a further modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the refrigerated front wall is omitted and downwardly pivoting thermally insulated doors are provided, for the compartments defined by the partitions 23. In this embodiment the articles to be cooled are supported on a grid spaced above the bottom wall 11 and the partitions 23 are perforated.
