Abstract

1,014,940. Preventing theft. ECURIE ROSSIGNOL Ltd. Nov. 3, 1964 [Sept. 2, 1963], No. 34569/63. Heading B7J. A detent for engaging a floor-mounted gear shift lever in a motor vehicle in order to prevent theft thereof comprises an arm 10 pivoted to a bracket 12 which is connected by a bolt 18 to the floor of the vehicle, a flanged head 13 on the arm being apertured to receive a padlock 15 which is locked in place when the gear lever is placed in a recess 13a in the flange. A stop 16 prevents undue movement of the padlock along the arm. A detent 13 may be provided to engage an aperture in the gear lever so as to prevent the arm from sliding down the lever. The flanged end 13 of the arm may be laterally directed, as in Fig. 5, and up and down movement of the arm may be prevented by a stop 11a.
