Abstract

101,419. Bell, J. D. Sept. 7, 1915, [Convention date]. Bedsteads convertible into seats.-The combined bed and seat is provided with a hinged seat frame which swings over forwardly to form a support for the mattress frame, which is jointed so that, when out of use, one section rests behind the seat-back and the other section under the seat. The seat frame 13 is hinged at 14 and carries supports 21 and guide-channels 22 for the mattress frame, which is jointed at 31 and is provided with guide-rollers 35, 37, 38. Guideways 3, 12 for the mattress frame are provided also on the side pieces 1. The back 27 is hinged at 26 and normally rests against stops 28. A hinged flap 24 closes the front of the space underneath the seat when the seat is in position for use. Pins 40 on extensions of one part of the mattress frame engage holes in the other part of the mattress frame. In a modification, toothed racks are provided in the guideways 12 to engage toothed guide-wheels carried by a spindle on the mattress frame.
