Abstract

1,014,199. Dishwashing machines. FRAME S.A. Sept. 5, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 34022/62. Heading A4F. A dishwashing machine comprises an auxiliary chamber 13 at the lower end of the washing chamber in which two centrifugal pumps, viz. a pump 15 supplying washing liquid to a sprayer 46, and a drain pump 16, are mounted on a common shaft 17, the drain pump 16, which is of a type which is operative in a single direction of rotation only, being continuously connected to an external drain. During the washing operation the shaft 17 is so rotated by a driving motor (not shown) that the drain pump 16 is inoperative, whilst water issues from the feed pump 15 to be forced past stationary vanes 56 which reduce or eliminate swirling movement therein before it discharges from the sprayer 46. The latter has a spherically curved portion 47 resting on a conical seat in an annular member 50 so that it may be revolved and rotated by the action of the water flow on a member 52 dependent therefrom. For draining the motor is driven in a reverse sense to operate the drain pump 16, during which operation the pump 15 may or may not be operative. The used washing liquid is filtered through a strainer 35 which has apertures 58 through which the liquid returns to the feed pump 15 and two elongated apertures 59, of larger crosssectional area than the apertures 58, through which the water flows only when being discharged by the drain pump 16. Projections 60 are provided on the bottom of the strainer 35 for retaining small solid articles such as stones of fruit.
