Abstract
1,014,145. Bearings. PLASTIC & RUBBER PRODUCTS CO. May 26, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 21716/64. Heading F2A. A replaceable insert for a shaft bearing, e. g. for marine use, comprises a sheet of material which is rolled around the shaft, the outer surface being of high friction material, e.g. rubber, and the inner surfaces having substantially parallel grooves forming shaft bearing lands. The grooves are parallel to a pair of opposite edges which abut when the sheet is rolled up so that the grooves are parallel to the shaft axis. The insert is retained within a metal sleeve 12 by end shoulders, one being a removable spring clip which facilitates insertion of the insert into the sleeve. The sleeve is held in a propeller shaft supporting strut 16 by a screw cap 40. The lands or the whole of the inner surface are coated with low friction material, e.g. " Teflon " (Registered Trade Mark).
