Abstract

In the process of purifying water according to the parent Specification in which A.C. power is applied to spaced, vertical electrodes adjacent a neutral electrode and the distance therefrom being substantially less than the space between the live electrodes and the container, the field applied is sufficient to stimulate the microbes present to consume putrefiable material, and is then increased to paralyse or kill the microbes leaving the water sterile. A field of 10 m A. per sq. cm. of surface projected between live and neutral electrode, is sufficient for stimulation, 25 m A. for paralysis and 50 m A. for death. The surface is that projected by the diameter of the cylindrical surface of the electrode and the depth of immersion of the electrode.
