Abstract
A composition suitable for use in the antistatic treatment of synthetic polymeric materials, e.g. fibres, threads, woven and knitted fabrics and foils made from polyacrylonitrile or polyamides, comprises a mixture of a polyethylene glycol and a salt formed from phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, a sulphonic acid or an acid ester of phosphoric or sulphuric acid and an aliphatic mono- or polyamine. The polyethylene glycol may have a molecular weight of 200-2000. Specified sulphonic acids are methane-, ethane-, butane-, dodecane-, octadecane-, benzene-, dodecylbenzene- and isododecyl-benzene-sulphonic acids and the acid esters of phosphoric or sulphuric acid may be the mono- or di-esters of phosphoric acid or the monoesters of sulphuric acid with methanol ethanol, butanol, octanol, dodecanol, octodecanol, cetyl alcohol, glycol, glycerol, cresol, hexanol, benzyl alcohol, phenol or a ethyl. Suitable amines are methyl-, ethyl-, butyl-dodecyl-, octadecyl-, dimethyl-, diethyl-, dibutyl-, methyldodecyl-, or methyloctadecylamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, ethylene-, tetramethylene-, hexamethylene or decat methylene-diamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, tetraethylene pentamine and higher polymers of ethylene imine.ALSO:Synthetic polymeric textile materials, e.g. fibres, threads, and woven and knitted fabrics made from polyacrylonitrile or polyamides, are rendered antistatic by treating them with an aqueous solution containing a mixture of a polyethylene glycol and a salt formed from phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, a sulphonic acid or an acid ester of phosphoric or sulphuric acid and an aliphatic mono- or polyamine. 0.1% by weight of the mixture may be applied. The polyethylene glycol may have a molecular weight of 200-2000. Specified sulphonic acids are methane-, ethane-, butane-, dodecane-, octadecane-, benzene-, dodecylbenzene-and isododecyl-benzene-sulphonic acids and the acid esters of phosphoric or sulphuric acid may be the mono- or di-esters of phosphoric acid or the monoesters of sulphuric acid with methanol, ethanol, butanol, octanol, dodecanol, octadecanol, cetyl alcohol, glycol, glycerol, cyclohexanol, benzyl alcohol, phenol or a cresol. Suitable amines are methyl-, ethyl-, butyl-, dodecyl-, octadecyl-, dimethyl-, diethyl-, dibutyl-, methyldodecyl- or methyloctadecylamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, ethylene-, tetramethylene-, hexamethylene or decamethylene-diamine, diethylene-triamine, triethylene tetramine, tetraethylene pentamine and higher polymers of ethylene imine.
