Abstract

Positive and negative images for making printing plates are simultaneously produced on transparent sheets a and b, respectively, by locating the sheet b, coated on its upper surface with a layer of pigmented thermoplastic material d, on the relief printing surface e of a heated metallic block c, placing the sheet a on said layer, and applying pressure to the assembly with a drum, the arrangement being such that areas of the tacky layer d representative of the surface e are transferred to the sheet a. Printing plates may be produced from the resultant imaged sheets by casting, pressing, electroplating or by photographic means. The sheets a and b may be of cellulose acetate or a polyester base material.
