Abstract

Dried alkali metal salts of anthracene-endo-succinic acid are reacted, e.g. by refluxing with epichlorohydrin and the resulting epoxide is hardened with a hardening agent, e.g. maleic or other acid anhydride. Water absorption agents, e.g. synthetic zeolites may be added to the reaction mixture. The potassium salt may be dehydrated by heating for 24 hours at 200 DEG C. or for a shorter time at 250 DEG C. in vacuo. Thiodiglycol is also mentioned in Example 1 as a hardening agent.ALSO:Di-glycidyl ester of anthracene-endo-succinic acid is prepared by reacting dried alkali metal salts of anthracene-endo-succinic acid with epichlorohydrin, if desired in presence of a water absorption agent, e.g. a synthetic zeolite. The potassium salt is preferred, is dried by heating, e.g. for 24 hours at 200 DEG C., and may be refluxed with excess epichlorhydrin.
