A block for licking by animals comprises crystallized sugar, e.g. glucose, a sodium salt such as sodium chloride and a magnesium compound e.g. magnesium oxide or magnesium sulphate. According to an example 83.5 parts of liquid glucose, 16 parts of calcined magnesia and 0.5 parts of sodium chloride, with, if desired, 0.5 parts of oil of aniseed are beaten together, and the mixture is allowed to solidify.
